Did I mention that we just love WVTim? And even though we’re down to number 3 for 2013, this isn’t even his last appearance on our top 10 of 2013 list. The question: is one of his the most or second most favorite cache we found in 2013?

One lesson that WVTim has really driven home to us is the importance of geocaching prepared! We typically try to keep a duffel bag in the trunk full of a variety of items that are commonly needed in seeking caches (or just involved in general outdoor activities). Some of the basics include disposable ponchos, an extra set of dry clothes, a variety of flashlights, clean socks, dry shows, blaze orange, and more batteries than a Radio Shack to make sure that neither our GPS or flashlights (when needed) never go dark. A pair of these items was necessary to extract this geocache.

The Sylvester is an option in any premium geocaching kit, but is certainly not a required item

Though I sometimes wonder about how this cache does with folks now that more and more people are relying solely on their smartphones to geocache. There is no judgment here: I want folks to get out and enjoy the world around them. But the difference between a handheld GPS and a smartphone could be the difference between finding or not finding this cache on the first try.

Some geocachers take pride in hiding geocaches that are truly amazing but physically strenuous to get to. I do enjoy my fair share of those, such as #5, but I also think geocaching should be a viable hobby for anyone. Not everyone can make it up Thousand Steps (and truthfully, I could barely walk up and down the stairs at my house for the following three days) but everyone should still have a positive experience. WVTim’s gadget caches make this so possible.

Widget can be driven right up to. The power it takes is of your brain and when you get it, you get a smile that goes on for hours! More than what you’d get from finding yet another film canister in a Walmart parking lot.

This is the second most favorited geocache in West Virginia.

I’ve also noticed an uptick in visitors since beginning this series on geocaching. Please let me know if you’d like to see more content on geocaching. Chris and I are just two average folks trying to get outside more but we’d love to share our experience, tips, tricks, and inspiration.
